New! Recent Letters from National Require Immediate Action Letters were sent in early June to volunteers requesting that they visit a website established by the National Council, log in, and accept the background check authorization.  Volunteers who give authorization will receive a background check and need do nothing more.

Volunteers who did not give their agreement, or who took no action to respond to the letter, are required to submit a new adult application
when it is time to renew their registration. To protect our youth members, those volunteers who did not have the background check will have
their registration expired. These adults will not be listed for selection at the time of charter renewal.

Please remind leaders you know who  received a letter from the Natonal Council in early June concerning the need for a background check to follow the instructions by  AUGUST 1.  Anyone receiving a letter who withholds permission, or fails to respond, will need to complete an Adult Application to continue as a registered  member after their unit's charter expires.  >>> This, and further information, to print and share

Important Update!
Council Consolidation Vote Approves Consolidation
:We are pleased to announce that both the Great Trails Council and the Pioneer Valley Council have voted to approve the proposed consolidation of our two councils.

We truly are excited about this opportunity to better serve the youth of all of western Massachusetts.

In the coming weeks, more information will be provided to you as we finalize the schedule and implementation of the consolidation.

The official name of our new council will be decided this summer, and we are open to suggestions.  In addition, we will be holding a design contest among our youth members in the near future for our new Council Shoulder Patch, so get your Scout artists ready.

Denis Gagnon, Pioneer Valley Council President
Rich O’Brien, Great Trails Council President

Cub Scouts learn the dangers of a closed trunk
Chevrolet SafeKids taught these Cub Scouts the dangers of playing in car trunks and how to use the emergency trunk release at a recent event at Suburban Chevrolet.  This was just one of the important topics covered in an afternoon that also included fun activities for the entire family.  For information on how to schedule a SafeKids  event for your Pack, Cubmasters (preferred), or Den Leaders should contact Mandi Summers at SafeKids Coalition of Western Mass by emailing her at mandi.summers@bhs.org
