PROGRAM
OPPORTUNITIES FOR
OLDER
SCOUTS
The Horace A Moses Scout Reservation is well equipped to provide challenges year after year for older scouts. Our private lake is ideal for the fleet of modern sail boats acquired two years ago; a challenge/confidence course is used to present C.O.P.E., a natitionally recognized BSA program. And with 1600 acres of pristine wilderness, it's the perfect place for Ultimiteering: cross country orienteering at dusk and in the dark.

CHALLENGING
OUTDOOR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
C. O. P. E. is a nationally recognized BSA program for scouts.
It is a group-training program designed to improve communication, trust
levels, group cooperation, and individual self-confidence. This strenuous
program consists of group challenges on a low, medium, and high ropes confidence
course.
The program is available for older scouts (at least 13 years old and First Class Scouts) Monday through Thursday evenings and Friday afternoon. They must be present for all sessions since the emphasis is on the group. Parents are invited to the Friday afternoon session at about 2:00pm.
A modest program fee of $20.00 is required to help cover the high cost of the equipment and materials. This fee can be paid at camp upon acceptance for the course. Enrollment is limited. Each Troop will be given the opportunity to register at least one older scout to participate each week. Additional scouts will then be accommodated as space allows.
ULTIMATEERING
Ultimateering is an adventurous orienteering course for experienced campers. It is open to First Class Scouts who are at least 12 years old. On Monday night, there is a skills review session. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the cross-country course takes the scouts through some of the little-used lands on the Reservation. Thursday night is the Ultimate Adventure with a whole night of adventure for the participants. Scouts leave camp before dinner and return the next morning. We welcome (and encourage) adult volunteers to join the boys. There is a $5.00 fee for this course.
COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM
The Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.) Program at Moses Scout Reservation is available again this summer. It has been designed to prepare older campers to become camp counselors and to offer older boys a challenging summer program. First Class Scouts who are at least 14 years old are eligible to apply. More information about the CIT Program is available on the application form. The fee is $200 for a 2-week training session.
SAILBOAT
REGATTA
If you are a sailor, try your skill against the wind and your fellow scouts in our new Sailboat Regatta. Practice session s will be held on Monday through Tuesday evenings, and the race will be on Wednesday afternoon.
BSA LIFEGUARD
This challenging and intensive course is for older scouts (and adults) with strong aquatics skills who would like to become a lifeguard. BSA Lifeguard candidates are on the waterfront all day. Most BSA Lifeguard candidates also participate in the Mile Swim as part of their conditioning program. Please note: Not all candidates complete the program in one week. Strong swimming and lifesaving skills, practice in all the roles of life guarding on a BSA waterfront, maturity and current CPR certification are all required to qualify as a BSA Lifeguard.
FIELD
ARCHERY
If you have some archery experience, try the field archery course where you can test your skill. There are ten stations set up in the woods with a variety of targets for you and your unit to take aim at. This is a unit activity only and requires adult supervision.
SHOTGUN SHOOTING
Available on a limited basis, this program gives you an opportunity to
try to hit a moving target. For safety reasons, scouts need to be
large enough to safely handle the shotgun. The shotgun director will
judge this based on the scout’s height and weight. Most 13-year-olds
can safely participate. This program will cost a little extra money
for the shotgun shells. Purchase your "Shotgun Debit Card" at the Trading
Post in advance ($3.50 for 10 shots.) Any shots remaining will be refunded.
Two adults from your unit must be present for this activity.
